Ashburton family home
a clean, modernist design for a busy family home.
Working alongside the architect, we have begun the process of redeveloping a mid-century bungalow into an expanded family home. This will include a dynamic, multi-zone wraparound garden to be built over the steeply sloped site, utilising sawn sandstone paving and cedar panelling to compliment the modernist lines of the rebuilt main structure.
Drought-tolerant mediterranean planting will grow either side of the new cedar fencing creating a safe zone above the existing high retaining wall, while extended borders of low maintenance planting will delineate and enclose the new family areas. The large quantities of existing old plantings are being chipped, composted and worked back into the soil on site; existing concrete will be crushed and recycled as a base for the new paving and following an ecologists report, biodiversity improvements have been factored in to the final design.
